Hair Restoration Q & A

What are some common causes of hair loss?

Hair loss can occur for several reasons. Genetic factors are a primary cause, so if you have close relatives who experience thinning hair, you’re more likely to notice those changes yourself.

Additional causes include:

  • Alopecia and other medical conditions
  • Certain medications
  • Tight hairstyles
  • Chemical hair treatments
  • Hormonal shifts during pregnancy or menopause

The aging process can also lead to hair loss in both men and women.

How does hair restoration work?

Hair restoration works by supporting your body’s natural ability to grow hair. Some approaches include using medicated shampoos and scalp treatments to help you grow new hair.

Microneedling is a wonderful treatment option that uses thin needles to prompt a healing reaction. Treatments reduce inflammation, which is known to contribute to hair loss, and also promote new cell development.

You can boost the effects of microneedling by incorporating platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the process. Dr. Soederbaum takes a small sample of your blood and uses a device called a centrifuge to pull platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells away from the liquid plasma. She then puts the platelets back into the plasma to create a strong concentration.

Platelets are rich in growth factors, which trigger new cell development. When added to microneedling, PRP further boosts the regenerative effects. PRP can also be administered directly into your scalp via a series of shallow injections.

How long does it take to see results after hair restoration treatments?

After treatment,  your body needs time to begin creating new hair cells, so it’s important to have patience. As those cells stack atop one another, they become strands of hair, eventually emerging through your scalp.

Most people benefit from a series of hair restoration treatments spread out over time. During your initial consultation, Dr. Soederbaum explains what to expect in terms of treatment timelines.

Many people are so pleased with their hair restoration results that they bring friends and family to LIV MED so they can experience these improvements for themselves.
